Estonian passport

Become a citizen of Estonia

An Estonian citizen’s passport is an official document that confirms your belonging to a given country and balances your rights with other EU citizens. Get an internal and foreign passport of Estonia and travel to over 175 countries without a visa. There is a simplified system for obtaining citizenship for residents of the CIS countries.

Advantages of an Estonian passport

Visa-free travel

Estonian citizens can travel without a visa to 175 countries with a passport (some states require additional registration in the electronic system).

Employment

You can legally get a job and after 15 years of experience in the state receive pension payments after reaching a certain age.

Business registration

You can do business in Estonia or other European countries due to a good tax system and labor resources.

Education

Study at universities throughout Europe in any specialties with an Estonian passport. You can apply for a scholarship or grant.

Medical care

A well-developed and efficient healthcare system, leading among other countries. The state has hospitals with centres for treatment in all directions and severity.

Residence

With an Estonian passport you can reside in any country of the European Union even on a long-term basis. To do this, you need to register your place of residence.

Grounds for acquiring citizenship

There are four ways to legally acquire Estonian citizenship. Each method has its own requirements, package of documents and terms of receipt.

Estonian passport by ancestors

This is a simplified program for those whose parents or grandparents are of Estonian origin or who were born on the territory of the state during a certain period of time. Choosing this method of acquiring citizenship reduces the period of obtaining a passport to 1-2 months, and also does not require prior residence in Estonia.

Estonian passport by naturalization

A standard procedure that requires residence in the country and compliance with migration laws (usually lasts 8 years). An applicant for citizenship is also required to successfully pass a language proficiency examination and renounce the passport of their country.

Passport for special merits

A way for people who have made a certain contribution to the country (science, sports, culture). However, only government officials can recommend candidates for citizenship through this method and no more than ten people per year.

Passport by birth

The status of a citizen of the country is inherited by children in accordance with the law (if one of the parents/guardians is an Estonian citizen). Foreigners can simultaneously apply for a passport for their child and for citizenship for themselves.
